That time again

Well ladies, it's that time of year again... time to be thinking about Slothfest and all it's lazy glory....

This year however, it's your turn!
That's right, it's up to YOU to make things happen.
I'm being as downright slothful as I can, and that includes removing myself from it's planning direction AND hosting. Let me know when and where.

I'VE BEEN CLONED!~!!!!

no friggin way!!! nooooo way!!!

ok... so I wondered how the odd little blogs would pop up, there had to be some way for the bots to take over random blog addresses and make them seem like real people....

I've been cloned!!!

ok, so go to the site... then click on the "view my profile" thingy..... look familiar? go look at mine.

ok, so mine's different... BUT only because I changed it last week... under favourite music????
At first I was all excited to find someone who liked so many of the same things.... then it got all
heeeeeyyyyy... wait a second!

"plan a or are we monday night?" as a band??? hello!!! that was my reference to the fact that our (at the time) band had no name! And I was pushing "plan a" as a name!

oh my.
I must be famous.

words and me

Words have always captured my attention.
Well, not WORDS... but more the meaning behind them... I think way too much about that sort of thing.
Where phrases come from, why one sound means something in one language, and something else in another. And even the meanings that one word can have.... just based on how it's said.

For example.

Monkey.

Monkey is a word that makes you smile. Not because the word "monkey" is a particularly fun word to say.... it's not even a word that feels good to say (thinking about the way syllables are formed in your mouth... I don't like the feeling of "key" -that weird thrusting forward of air over the top of your flexed tongue...** ) But no, we smile because of the critters we recognise as going with that name - or set of sounds. We think more about the fun loving little critters, or, like me, you might think of that little rubber armed flying monkey toy that screams when it crashes into something.

At work we've been doing a survey. It's an online survey, hosted by none other than ... "survey monkey". A name that makes you think of a fun little gadget for all your fun surveying needs!
I couldn't stop laughing when I heard the message on my phone from one of our pretty "serious toned" managers, reading- droning a piece of information about the survey monkey... it sounded like it was some sort of joke... like everyone had decided that instead of "fuzzy little poop throwing animal", Monkey really meant "a droll device used to compile information and categorize it."

** more on the feeling of words some other time.

*** I bought some jujubes today. That has nothing to do with anything. I just really wanted to eat some.

****and the African meal pulled together just fine... with help from the two roomies.

***** did I ever mention that the two roomies also share the same first name?

Bunday Monday (or) don't leave them unattended.

As a general rule of thumb, I try not to leave my bunnies out for too long on their own. I'd rather be right there...
Yesterday I had the urge to bake some bread.
And cook some beans.
I returned to my room two hours later to find .....

They decided to chew the bottom off the bag of litter. and decided to use the litter... and decided that since the litter was on the floor then the whole floor must be a litter box. GREAT. Thankfully, no wet messes.
Evil bunnies.

The bread turned out great... and we're having my first attempt at an African meal here at home... we'll see how that turns out, if all goes well, maybe it'll be an African themed house warming party.
fitting?

lovin' town

Even though I've really only moved 4 or 5 blocks from my old house... the change is HUGE. I'm less than a block from the downtown core, I have dear friends within just a block of me, and a new roomie to boot. (err.. not that I'm going to BOOT her... it's an expression.) (here... "a new roomie on top of it all". Is that better?)
An old friend said to roomie#1 that she thought the move had been good for us... even made mention that I've seemed like my old self...
I've felt like my old self.

I am less than TWO blocks away from the bean!!! However... it's a small town, so a 5 min trip turns into a 30 min trip pretty easy.

It's been a busy couple of weeks, so yesterday I made myself a list so I wouldn't forget to do any of the things I'd been hoping to get done....
I got nearly everything done... but I didn't set myself up for failure in making it.

  • get dressed? (yes, I put a question mark)
  • laundry
  • blue box (got rid of 4 boxes of crap)
  • Move Martha's stuff (our landlord)
  • set up sewing table (where Martha's stuff is currently)
  • items to basement (I had a box of storage type stuff)
  • drink coffee
  • read a book
  • blog
  • drink soup
  • eat pizza
  • find tweezers
  • find eyebrows
  • groceries
  • soak beans
  • do nails
  • hug Meg
  • watch a movie
  • research router prices
  • drop off babykate's B-Day card
  • Drop off T&H's card
  • eat chocolate
  • check cow (don't ask)

there were a few that didn't get done.... They would be the ones that required a little extra effort. They would be the ones in blue.

I apologise for the scatter-brainededness too much wants to come out at once... so, I'm trying to filter... and not processing well yet.

hooked up, linked up... (or) Bunday Monday updates

that's right... we're back online.

pray for the computer, that it lasts another month or so... till I'm able to get my new one.

and now, without further delay.... the missing Monday Bunday shots (and video)

(Giant Binky... only just barely caught it when I turned on the camera... CBC radio in the background... You can get an idea of 'Touf's size when I pan over to him by the computer desk... he can put his nose over the top of the desk, again, just barely caught him doing that too)

Chillin' on the top shelf. They seem to like it best for sleeping.

I think everyone's settling in ok.

drama queen says....

drama club was on today... we've got a whole new batch of folks out this year and it's KILLING me how funny they are.
We had a special guest today (one of the girls from "Hairspray") helping us come up with new activities to challenge us a little further. We always seem to revert back to "Drama Queen says", a variation of "Simon Says", but a whole lot sillier... "Drama Queen says act like you're making pancakes".
Today one of the guys took over the show.
He started EVERY time with "Oh! I've got one". Then led us thru a series of acting like various actors and playing parts from his favourite movies... The stuff he came up with was leaving me gasping for air- I was laughing THAT hard!

We're also putting together the pieces for this years play... everyone gives input on what they want to have happen, and a variety of lines that they think they'd like to say in the play (now... remember this is a group of people with developmental disabilities... if there's a line they want in there... it NEEDS to be in there!! And it's always better than anything I could ever write for them). At the end of the process, I'm left to put the puzzle together and come up with a workable script.
I'm especially excited to see how the "Time Warp" fits in with "Snow White" and an individual who wants to play three different parts (he suggested several wardrobe changes).... an old woman, a rocking chair, a reporter, Shaina, and John Travolta.

any ideas on direction for this one?

NB: I'm thinking there's a bus accident and the old woman in the rocker is the witness...

we all age. right?

Last weekend I was watching some good ol'fashioned home shows on tv... none of your fancy new-fangled home renos... nooo sir-ee bob. None of that fancy pants Ty or even Bob.
No, I'm talkin' 'bout "this old house" and "New Yankee Workshop" (which I always call "old Yankee workshop) (- my personal favourite has always been the "Woodwright's Shop" where poor Roy cuts his hand on something in nearly every show.....).

Anyway's I was a watchin' this show, and Nom (Norm with a yankee accent) is out checking out new kitchen dressings. He wants to convert his old shop kitchen (cause yeah, he's got a shop big enough to have it's own kitchen) so he's out at some company getting a tour of their kitchen concepts.

Here's where it get's really good, and I break out of my stupid character blogging voice... Norm's reached this corner in the kitchen... you know the type, where you might put a space saving "lazy susan" in the giant cupboard... and you have two opposing drawers ... and can open only one at a time because they crash into each other?
The lady showing Norm around mentions the fact that the drawers always crash in the corners when you pull them out to put your utensils in... blah blah blah... and she says that they've created a way to maximize on the space... blah blah blah... so she reaches over to open one of the drawers.... now here's where I wish that I'd written down the name of the company so you could have the visual...
instead of opening the drawer like a normal drawer.... she pulled it straight out from the corner.. it was attached to that "opposing" drawer... and came out... and I'm reading what I'm writing... and it doesn't make sense...

ok, corner set, drawers closed above..... same corner set, drawer pulled open below.... not nearly as dramatic as seeing it for real.

so, the girl pulls open the drawer...... and I GASP in surprise.
and the guy watching it with me GASPS in surprise.

I was telling my roomie tonight this same story... she turned to me and said... "you know... we're getting really old... things like cabinetry are exciting to us now."

right... thanks.

not my day job

I've never confessed to be an art or film critic.

Today I told Babykate that I liked a piece of her art because it had peas in it.
And because the "colours were bold. I like simple colours, like.. primary colours... uh.. but I know those aren't primary colours... but... I like the way they contrast... uh."
I should have stopped at "I like that one".

BUT in saying I'm not a critic, I am a supporter... and an encourager.

I encourage you to go see Juno. Quickly. I will be watching it again.

Also, check out Babykate's artwork sometime, ask me, I'll direct you.

Bunday Monday

I was talking with a friend the other day about the buns and the new house... he thinks that having rabbits as house pets is pretty odd, so not a day goes by where he doesn't stop to ask about them.
I was trying to explain to him how the boys aren't too keen on the new floors.... all lovely hardwood... all lovely slippery, "not so much fun for "binkies", I told him. And was greeted by a blank stare.
Then I remembered that I hadn't even heard the word "binky" in reference to a rabbit hop until maybe two years ago... and I've had rabbits since I was 6! So I tried to explain to him about the excited crazy flip and twist hop that a happy rabbit gives as it's running around. And was greeted by a blank stare.
"but... you've had rabbits!" I stuttered.
"yeah... in a cage" he said
I gave him a blank stare.

I caught a giant binky on the camera yesterday, I'll post it as soon as I can. (giant buns=giant binkys)

the pen is mighty

When I don't write things down, I forget them.
I feel like I've lost full sections of my week.

:( in a sad but happy sort of way.

A guy that I used to know, not someone I've been in touch with much over the past few years- but someone that I've found myself running into in all odd stages of my life for the past 17 years- passed away this morning.

How does someone young and previously healthy just die?

He went into the hospital a few days ago, it was looking really bad.. then there was an improvement, I opened an email this morning that was titled "exciting news for Kelly"... and thought he'd pulled out of it. It took me a moment or two to decipher the email... I couldn't wrap my mind around the statement "Kelly has gone home to his Father".

It was more of a stunned "I'm not really reading this" moment.

I'm glad he's not having to go thru anymore... but so incredibly sad for his family and close friends....

And dealing with my own issues of mortality... because this is my blog and I can be selfish here.

Lost in the Dark

I was going to write a post... but T.Lam wrote it for me.

Last night I knew I needed to spend some time sitting... and I knew if I didn't leave my house to sit... well, I wasn't going to sit.
So, instead I went to the movies.

The good news is that unpacking is going fairly well. I can nearly walk to my underwear drawer.

Monday Bunday

day three in the house....
Bunnies are making do with a (warm) make-shift cage out on the sheltered porch at the side of the house.
I'm so thankful it hasn't been really crappy weather.
Found my camera. Found my computer.... still no interwebs at the house....

more old landlord horror stories to come soon.
sigh

It's a house!

Well, we're in the new place...
A huge thank you to those who helped get us there... we'd still be standing in the house just looking at the boxes if it weren't for you!

Next up, cleaning. Like a mad man.

lots to do...

Back to the Future

I'm posting into the future,
one of this year's resolutions was to (to the best of my ability) blog more often.
I've been thinking about why I blog quite a bit today (thanks to Suzanne)... although... the post is now missing, so I can't just direct you there and say "I agree with what she said".

Anyway, I'm packing the computer on Friday, and I'm not sure when I'll be back on line.... Roomie's computer is not working quite the way it should.

Check back often! You never know when I'll be back :)

you MUST... I repeat... MUST watch these videos!

50 points if you can correctly give me the origin of this post's title.

80, great.

The past few days I'd taken to writing a letter each morning and carrying it in my pocket. It started out "Dear Officer, if you've pulled me over then what they say about Murphy's law must be true."
From there it went on to say that I planned on purchasing my stickers for my car plates on yesterday's date.. the first date I'd have off work in time to get to the licensing place... errr.. the first date since I remembered (last week) that I needed to get new stickers.
Thankfully, I didn't have to get the letter out of my pocket, I was never pulled over.

Yesterday I got to the mall on time, only to discover something odd. Remember that time the thieves broke into my car, and hurt my feelings by not stealing my CDs? The cops wouldn't take a report as nothing was stolen.... I discovered yesterday that in fact... they had taken my car registration papers.
So, not only was I driving with an expired sticker... but I didn't own my car.

What did I do?

I got the hic-ups.

Then I went and requested new owners papers, stickers, and a change of address on my licence.

All was well with the world again, I hurriedly stopped for some groceries, then trotted off to my car. Bags in each hand, I wiped the dirt off the spot on my car's plates and proceeded to stick the sticker on..... upside down. Luckily, I caught myself just as I was sticking it on, and only the very corner of the sticker had touched the plate... I slowly pulled it back... and voila!
Ripped the sticker in half.

My plates now hold a sticker for the year "80 CED", ripped down the middle and pieced back together .

Great.

Fresh and Tasty

A thing happened yesterday.

Not a good thing, but turns out, not a bad thing either.

Roomie's computer kicked the bucket at work... which is very sad, it's been puffing smoke on the rare occasion... but it means that she's got a lappy now. A lappy that will pic up a neighbour's wireless signal when we move into the new house until our own Internet is hooked up.
For that, I am truly thankful.

Also, I was looking at the stats again today, While the most common random entry into the site (via google) is "fresh parsley" or "parsley substitutes" or "parsley as a seasoning" or even "can you get high off of parsley?", I continue to be number 5, sometimes number 6 in the search! How sad.
Especially since most people don't know how the name came to be here...
flash back
(flash back music)
(flash back special effects)
(maybe some hazy smoke around the edges)
(and cold vinyl car scent..)
I'm in a car... I'm not alone.
I am the passenger.
Beside me, Kim.
Behind me, her young daughter and infant son.
Kim and I are having a conversation, when from the back of the car we hear a small voice trying to get our attention.... Trying to get MY attention.
"umm ummm... uh.... Parsley? Will you play barbies with me?"

And so came the moniker. And it stuck.

a regular bake off!

The other day I was out with a friend I hadn't seen in ... two years? (Maybe less... I catch him every time he comes to Ontario... I'll check the archives later...) Anyway, we were out for coffee catching up, then went to wander the mall in the Petes. This friend and I worked together in the drop in centre for a few years, worked most shifts together and often got called on to run an errand or two together... he's a great guy and I've missed him since he's moved out west. He has this.... endearing way of saying "aaaawwww, muffin!", that's kinda catchy, and over time, he became known (at least in my mind) as Muffin.
When I moved back to this area I met another guy by the same first name, and over time, I started calling him Muffin too... it seemed only natural.

Muffin the original and I are wandering the mall, chatting away, when we round a corner... and there... standing before us .... is Muffin number two.

Have you ever had your worlds collide? I'm talking about the left hand meeting the right hand... ok, maybe not so drastic... Friends from one part of your life meeting the friends from another part of your life...
Thankfully I'm pretty much the same person no matter where I am... True enough I'm a little more mature where work is concerned, but other than that, I'm me. When those worlds collide... sometimes you're just left.... stunned. And confused.

It was then that I had to break it to the Muffins that they weren't all that special after all... they shared a name with someone else...

I watched number two eye number one ... "you mean I'm not the original Muffin??!" (slightly shocked... slightly amused)

"it's like a regular bake shop out here today"

Monday Bunday

comic credit :: Natalie Dee of course!

I just finished some quality bunny squishing time... I know it's the move for the most part that's pretty near paralyzing me... keeping me from accomplishing anything- right when I know I've got so much to do... Such is the nature of my being.
Didn't get the camera out today, so I'm pulling a shot out of the archives...

awww, little tiny baby Fynn Pants!

movin'

Hey there folks!
I hold in my hand (as of this evening) a key... a grand key to unlock a treasure... a key to unlock the next step in neighbourhood domination... that's right... a key to ### Ball st.
Can't you picture it now?
The answering machine beeps, and you're greeted with some such silliness as "you've reached two Sarahs or Les"
... you groan, then head over to the Ball and Burke:: "good times" head quarters....

that said... reminder... Internet connection will be lost sometime this week... everything should be up and running by next week.
uh... and the phone.. I think it gets disconnected on Saturday? But reconnected the same day at the new place... aim for cell phones.

oh, and I've had the hic-ups off and on for about a week now.

Saturday, January 05, 2008

it just figures

As mentioned, there are boxes everywhere... the move is just days away.
With all this moving prep, I must forewarn, there's going to be a bit of a break in the blogging... which positively kills me.
This is my sanity.
I was just checking in on my stats page... just slowly pulling back out of a slow decline in readers... facebook ate my stats.
Stop reading this thru facebook! (Mind you I'm not going to discontinue the importing)

Ok, so the other night I'm headed over to help out with the Sr.High group that I volunteer with. I wasn't totally sure if we'd started back up again, or if we were following the school calendar and taking another week off. I pulled into the parking lot and all was dim- on the off chance that my car's clock was broken and I was just really early, I decided to call another leader's home and ask her. Her husband answered the phone.
Let me stop for a moment to give a disclaimer... This husband has appeared on my blog before in story... but a few weeks ago he told me he was almost leery of talking to me anymore for fear that whatever was going on would end up here... in blog land... I've been really good since then to NOT share any of his stories, though for some reason, he's always made his way into some bizarre happenstance... and it kills me not to share. SO, from this point on he will be "he who goes unnamed". ... "he who goes unnamed" is a lot of typing... so for short, let's call him...
ummm.
Jason.
~back to the story
The phone rings and rings, and just as I'm finding the button to hang up I hear a rushed " 'lo?" So I put the phone to my ear, laugh for a second and start to talk to him.
~another tangent
Last time I talked to him, he thought I was someone else... so this time I'd determined that if he answered, I was going to tell him it was me up front to avoid confusion. However, in my distraction of trying to hang up, I forgot...
~back to the story
Jason says to me "hey! how are you doing? You're looking for G.I.netty?" (his wife) To which I reply... well, I guess not, if she's there, I guess that answers my question. I was calling to see if House was running tonight "(house being the SR.High group). "If she's there... I guess I don't need to be at the church." He laughs and we start a conversation about random things.. the conversation eventually turns to Wii games.
I love my Wii.
Jason borrowed a Wii system for the Christmas break, and discovered that it lacked one part... the conversation continued...
J: "I broke into your house the other day... did your family tell you?"
Me:"huh?"
J: "I broke into your house the other day to find a part for the Wii... but I couldn't find it."
Me: "I lent my Wii to the Sheffs"
J: "You DID? When?"
Me: "uh... sometime before Christmas"
J: "oh.. ok"
The conversation continues... wanders to some other topic for a few MINUTES, then suddenly halts.
J: "I'm not talking to Sue... am I?"
"Uh... no"

I think my favourite part is that we both were so incredibly confused that we just acted like we knew what the other was talking about... and kept on going.

ummmm got fuzzy?

I bought myself a desk calendar... one of those "tear a sheet a day" jobbers. It's a Get Fuzzy cartoon one... Probably my favourite cartoon (alongside Sherman's Lagoon).
I only just remembered that I bought it.
I only just remembered because I was thinking how strange it was that today, of the 33 visitors (so far) 3 came thru a google search for "fuzzy tongue".
You should get that looked at.

Ode to my Cold -Nyquil (profanity edited/removed)

well, my cold has nearly left the building... err.. body... Temple?
ug.

anyway, in honour of my dedication to NyQuil and it's coma-inducing qualities, NurseDude sent this my way, and I figured you'd all like it too.

Dennis Leary said this about Nyquil:

I don't do illegal drugs anymore. Now I just do the legal drugs. Tonight I'm on NyQuil and Sudafed. Let me tell you something, folks. Forget about cocaine and heroine. All you need is NyQuil and Sudafed. I'm telling you right now, I took the NyQuil five years ago. I just came out of the coma tonight before the show! Claus Von Bulow was standing over my bed going, "Denis, get up! There's something the matter with Sunny! Hurry up!" I love NyQuil. Man, I love it! I love it. I love it. I love it. It's the best thing stuff ever invented. Isn't it, huh? I love the name alone. NyQuil - Capitol N, small Y, big friggin Q! I love that friggin Q, don't you!? What a great advertising idea! Put a huge friggin Q on the box. They'll get high and stare at it. "The Q is talking to me! The Q is talking to me!"

I love NyQuil, man. Because NyQuil has never changed, man. It's never changed. All the other medicines are doing that inner-child thing. "we know that there's a small child inside of you, so now we have grape and cherry and orange flavor." Not NyQuil! They still have the original green death flavor! You know why!? Because it doesn't matter what it tastes like! It's so strong you go, "*wheeze* Hey this stuff really tastes like.." Bang! Yer in the coma already! "What happened?" "He said tastes like and he went right into the coma, it was unbelievable!" We have reached the point where the over the counter drugs are actually stronger than anything you can buy on the street. It says on the back of the NyQuil box, on the back of the box it says, "May cause drowsiness." It should say, "Don't make any friggin plans! Kiss your family and friends goodbye. Say hello to Klaus!" NyQuil, NyQuil, NyQuil, we love you! You giant friggin Q!

NyQuil is the secret for all you twelve step recovery program people. Yes, all you AA people, NyQuil is the key! It's the thirteenth step! You can drink it! It's over the counter! Drink as much as you want. "Are you drunk?" "No! I have a cold. Same cold I've had for two years. I just can't seem to shake it. I'm high as a kite and my teeth are green.

A Year of Firsts

... or new beginnings.
If you were into numerology you'd understand that this year is a year of beginnings... something about "add the 2 and the 8 and remove a zero and shift the decimal... and you get a 1".
errrr.. something.

So, to a year of; new things; new people; new places; new emotions; new goals; new dreams; new adventures!

Ok, so I made the most brilliant discovery today! Rock Band (which I love) and Guitar Hero (That I don't so much love) are NOT new concepts!!! Nope, they are a rip off of an old design.
Press a button, strum, feel like you're creating music... oh yeah, it's all been done before.... may I present to you ....

The Autoharp!
Yup, press a button (they are cleverly decorated with the chord printed right on them) strum... and you've got instant music. errr. so long as you aren't laughing too hard to keep playing. Now, that said... there's alot more you can do on the autoharp than my ridiculous plunking of "leaving on a jet plane" or trying to play "blowin in the wind"... esp if it's been set up right... I had the privilege of using a um... designer autoharp tonight... so the chords were limited. If you click the photo above, you'll get to hear a pro in action.... I sound more... umm... stylistic?
