Sometimes they write themselves.

Three things:
 1) I have a great friend named Kevin who can always make me laugh. He's
happily married to his partner of 12million years, but if he ever decides to try the straight side- I know I get first dibs.

2) I have a ukulele student who likes to "spontaneously song". She opens her mouth and she's written a new song. This week's gems included chickens learning to swim, "the flippers helped them greatly" was one fantastic line. And yes, it all rhymed. But the best line hands down was from a song about a quilting otter, "cross stitch isn't a skill you often use"... I nearly fell off my chair.

3) My friends often make fun of the fact that I remember so much random (mostly) useless information from the articles I read. They also make fun of the fact that I read articles about these things at all.
The following is what happens on facebook when Kevin and I are online.

Status update:
I will NOT read the article on tanning deer hides using natural materials. There is no reason for me to learn this.

L.Bo- especially since I already read the article on using soldier fly larva to consume waste and create animal feed protein.. Why do I read and retain this stuff? Why can't I remember my seven times tables?

Kevin- Seven times seven equals an awesome pair of fringed suede buckskin boots. Eight times seven makes them thigh-high.

Nine times seven? I'm not even going there.

L.Bo- chaps... a matched set.

The worst part of this is... next time I'm trying to remember 8x7 .. I'm going to start laughing uncontrollably.

Kevin-No, the worst part is that I'm going to be awake all night envisioning variations of unmatched chaps.

And that won't be the worst way I've spent a night.

This week

L.Bo-I love you.

Kevin- That's only because you bring out the worst in me. I was a contender for Pope before I met you.Assuming pink smoke would be recognized for the miracle it would be.

L.Bo- So. um. I was just trying to picture the pope in chaps and then realized how very wrong that was.

Kevin- Totally cackled. Totally love you. Totally blamed you for waking up the dog and making him bark, which woke up Jer, who was "watching a movie".

If any one of them was wearing unmatched pink suede chaps, I'd simply die of joy.

L.Bo-  " I simply died of joy" I want that on my gravestone.

Kevin- Cross-stitched. In granite.

L.Bo- Obviously

"cross stitching isn't a skill you often use" ... said by a quilting otter.

Kevin- Cross stitching is no more a skill than ballroom dancing, or making venison jerky. It's an art you're born with. Or buy at church bazaars.

L.Bo- I was born with so.much.art.

Kevin- And I was born with silk floss, patent leather shoes and deer meat. I complete you.

L.Bo- See? I just died of too much joy.

Kevin- Let's make a pact: No dying until the pope wears unmatched pink suede chaps. (Which, in light of recent comments, isn't as far-fetched as one might first presume.) My guess is that it could happen in celebration of the first anniversary of Saint Liberace Day.

Or did you mean "la petite mort", which would cause me to avert my eyes, shuffle my feet and blush.

It was at this point my computer had a temper-tantrum and started acting like I was leaning on the enter key... after some rather embarrassing/ odd posts, I decided it was time to take my leave.... but not before my computer tried to link each line I wrote to "what the poo dude" . So random!

Kevin- sleep well and fully chapped

L.Bo- half chapped= 7x3

sheesh

Sometimes I just need to shake my head at myself!

Seriously.

So I've been living in frustration with the broken keyboard (remind3er, th6is2 is2 wh6a1t h6a1pens2 wh6en I us2e it). It's kept me from spending much time online. No, that's a lie, it's kept me a lurker. The act of even responding with one line would make me want to poke my eyes out... deleting all those extra numbers.

Sure, I posted a few blog posts, I wrote a few emails where I had to... but for the most part stayed "silent" online.

Today I was deleting numbers- trying to write a two sentence response to someone about how to build a fruit fly trap like the one I was using (dear.GOD. I have a lot of fruit flies in the house right now)... when a thought came to me.

Did I?
Was that a dream?
No... I really did.

I marched into my bedroom, reached down into the dark corner of my closet, and closed my fingers around something thin and metal.

Guess who forgot that she had purchased a spare mac keyboard 3 or 4 years ago while at the bluebox? um.
yeah...
I (now) remember the exact conversation I had with a friend when I bought it "I'm buying the keyboard in case I ever spill a beer or something on my computer... it's good to have a back up plan".
(it's good to review your back up plans every once in awhile)

all that glitters is not fully gold though, the return button doesn't work- but the one on the number pad of the keyboard does...

I am stupidly happy right now.

some days aka soymedayys

Some days, it's too hot to do anything after work but lay on the couch with a beer and watch too many episodes of "Orange is the New Black" on Netflix. (Side note... DEAR GLORY ME... THAT is a great show... a little graphic nudity, but who isn't desensitized already these days?)

Some days, your dog bumps into the table and knocks your beer onto the laptop.

Sometimes, when you're really lucky, the next morning... only a few keys are a little sticky and the touch pad isn't your best friend, and your computer smells like a dirty bar.... but you're happy anyway because you didn't get the blue screen of death when you turned your computer on that morning.

Let's all think warm loving thoughts for my computer shall we?

eeeewwww

so, I've realized in the past year... that the number of social networking sites I'm involved in has tripled.
if not more.
and, I realized that a number of sites that I've used over the past few years that were NOT social networking sites... have changed their focus and become SNS.

this isn't a huge problem, except for the fact that in that space of time, they've been bought up, or consolidated with the big online players... and now I've got something like 4 different google related accounts, 3 yahoo (which are connected to google), and a few other oddballs.
where's the problem?
well, now that they're all connected- I have to sign out of one to get into the other.
where's the problem?
I can't figure out which sign in goes with which password.
And some of the accounts are so old, that I can't change the password without access to the email account they are attached too... except that, there isn't an email account, because some older accounts were grandfathered in....
what?
for example... my flickr account.
now run by Yahoo... is not attached to a yahoo email. my yahoo email was a work account back in the day, and back in the day, I just signed in using my user name.... BUT, it thinks it's being smart by finding my username (my legal name) attached to that old defunct email account (that email was closed as I no longer work for that org- and I never attached the flickr account to the email address), and insisting that my flickr user name (from before it became a yahoo account) can't be changed without use of the yahoo account...
oh my, it makes my head spin.
that, and I have to sign out of gmail in order to use my youtube account, because my youtube account is attached to a different email provider. I'm sure there's a way to change these things...
I'm just annoyed that I have to... and that I have to spend time looking up how to do it.

because I honestly can't keep all these accounts straight anymore.

this wasn't what I was going to blog about tonight. I was going to write about "super size me" and my flu bug.
but when I was signing in, I realized that my account for blogger was the same as my youtube account info.. but that the two weren't related (yet)

counting beans

I'm still a bit of a stats whore.
I got excited today when I looked at the sidebar stat counter and realized guest number 1600 had come and gone...

then I remembered that it was the "new" stat counter, reset after moving the blog to the newer format two years ago... I'm actually nearer to 30,000 guests.... and even that count doesn't take into account the first two and a half years of the blog.

um.
really.
this is dorky excitement.

yick, buzz

I spent fri, sat, sun knocked out on my couch with drugs- I got hit hard with some bug or another.
- That would be the yick.

The "Buzz" would be the strange noise that started coming from the computer on Thursday night. I haven't turned it on since. I'll turn it on briefly to back up some things from it then order my new 'puter sometime this week.

I've been putting it off.

snow day conversations

(this one's a long one... sorry)
(I love snow days)

Bess says:
in answer to your question... it's a hybrid. Not to be confused with the Liger. it's a Liamb

schenectady: so what was it? lion or lamb? says:
yeah?

schenectady: so what was it? lion or lamb? says:
'cause its been a bit of a debate

Bess says:
there's no debate... only DNA evidance. March gave birth to a Liamb

schenectady: so what was it? lion or lamb? says:
most people who were snowed in last night are saying that it counts as lion and that we having nothing but goodness to look forward to

Bess says:
now, the resulting offspring won't be able to mate... sooooo... I don't know where that leaves us, but I'm fully confidant that the month will end with something like a Laon

schenectady: so what was it? lion or lamb? says:
i think it all means that Jesus is coming back before next march

Bess says:
sweet

schenectady: so what was it? lion or lamb? says:
and i'm fine with that

Bess says:
I'd better mail you your christmas gift then

schenectady: so what was it? lion or lamb? says:
hahahaha

schenectady: so what was it? lion or lamb? says:
and i'd better get married - i just don't want to die a virgin

Bess says:
ditto... maybe if I post this, we'll both pick up?

schenectady: so what was it? lion or lamb? says:
hmmm

schenectady: so what was it? lion or lamb? says:
i was just going to start hanging around seminaries

Bess says:
HAHAHA

schenectady: so what was it? lion or lamb? says:
but you can still post it

schenectady: so what was it? lion or lamb? says:
maybe seminary people read your blog

Bess says:
we can only hope.

movin'

Hey there folks!
I hold in my hand (as of this evening) a key... a grand key to unlock a treasure... a key to unlock the next step in neighbourhood domination... that's right... a key to ### Ball st.
Can't you picture it now?
The answering machine beeps, and you're greeted with some such silliness as "you've reached two Sarahs or Les"
... you groan, then head over to the Ball and Burke:: "good times" head quarters....

that said... reminder... Internet connection will be lost sometime this week... everything should be up and running by next week.
uh... and the phone.. I think it gets disconnected on Saturday? But reconnected the same day at the new place... aim for cell phones.

oh, and I've had the hic-ups off and on for about a week now.

is someone standing gaurd?

pretty sure I'm not suppose to check my daily reads from work.....
however.. yesterday I had a 5 minute span where-in I didn't take a smoke break (because I don't smoke), and had nothing to tide me over till my meeting with my boss.
Except... I wasn't counting on the sneeze being quite so funny, and nearly blew my cover doing a "turn that laugh into a coughing fit or phlegmy throat thing".

back in the day

On a blog I frequent daily, two questions were posed to us earlier this week: why did you start blogging, and name another blog I should read.

I gave my answer, but then, going back to read other's answers I was reminded.....

Another part of the reason I started blogging was because of a personal web page back in 96 or 97...
we'd just gotten hooked up to the world wide web, and I was clogging our phone line reading ...
wait for it....
a man's JOURNAL!!!
I thought for sure he just didn't know how to use his computer and was accidentally writing for all the world to see... All I remember was that he was really into swing dancing... I read everything he wrote till we got a new computer... and in my laziness never remembered the address.
That was back when we "yahoo'd" things... because yahoo was cooler than Google. But yahoo let me down trying to find him again... I had a bit of a geeky girl crush on him.

also

in other news... I took up pirating again tonight, after quite a long hiatus.
Too long.
I have no POE.
And I have no idea what's going on.

because sometimes it's too much

sometimes you need a break at work.
I've taken to giving myself two 5 minute breaks each day.... I call them my "smoke breaks" but no, I'm on facebook. or better.... Homestarrunner.
Because both make me smile.

this little ditty will be stuck in your head for a bit... then try out the mixer at the end!

oh those commercials... snort!

Ok, I love a good commercial. No, really, I LOVE a good commercial.
Catchy jingle? Witty hook line? Fantastic series?
I'm yours.
I lived for the new Brick commercials in the mid nineties.... I craved the Snapple Lady, I still rap out the 80's McDonald's ditty... (side note:: it was a compitition down in the states, they just gave us the song up here, also, I can't find any snapple lady commercials)

And now? I'm in love with the Mac guy (don't worry Dolly, you're safe).

But I realized I've got a bit of a problem.
Rather, I just realized - as I was talking with the Roomie about the way the MacBook prices have been coming down, that I have a big problem.

When I said;

I've been thinking about the MacBook for awhile now, but I'm afraid to get it because I'll have to relearn all the keys for Puzzle Pirates.
