February - Monday Bunday

I've got the February blues.... The sun is starting to win, but I'm more than willing to call it quits minutes after waking... preferring to fall onto the nearest couch and stare at the wall.

Last night I had two great blog posts composed in my head.
They're gone now.

Here's this guy....

More than the usual disapproval, mixed with a little relief and gratitude. Bunny/bathtub smackdown number 2 of this year happened last night. Maybe he's feeling the blues too? He just hasn't been putting any effort into working on the mats of fur around his tail, and then (maybe too much information here?) he gets crap stuck to them... then can't reach properly to get to his first poops (bunnies have a double digestion thing they do... it's kind of gross) so he just keeps getting softer and softer craps, till he's a sticky gross mess... and then his stomach starts bothering him because he's not getting all the nutrition he should be getting from his food... so then he doesn't want to eat....

I'm making an appointment for him this week to shave some of the trouble spots... it should be an interesting experience.

Under feets.

Under foot..
under your foots.
under yer' feets.
undefeated?

The rabbit.

I don't think I really took into consideration how much the rabbit would miss the dog. Actually, I didn't figure he'd really even notice that the dog was gone, or at least that there would be no impact on the rabbit...
Until the day after Jelly was gone.

It is near impossible to be in the back room of the house without the rabbit FORCING himself on you. Head butts, nose pokes, climbing legs, stealing shoes, weaving between feet.
All of it.
Attention starved.
If you're a visitor, be warned.

It makes me wonder what was going on between those two when I wasn't home, who was curled up in who's bed?

The real Monday Bunday

An aside: I wonder when blogger will come out with a mobile version?

How do you catch a rabbit?
In much the same way that you would catch a cat.
Get a box- any size- and place it on the floor.
Wait.
(not very long)

Monday Bunday

I nearly forgot that today is monday. So to make up for it, two for the price of one.
Disapproval bunny style- a lion's share... He's slightly annoyed with the pieces of felt that keep getting dropped on his head.

How to resolve that disapproval? Some bunny lovin' fixes it every time.

Those feet!!!! Look at that foot! I just want to squish it!

sheesh..

So proud of myself and Badbunny.ca .. feeling like I'm getting back in control of things... annnnnnnd then....

First the rabbit has a bout of the runs, lots of scrubbing the floor and some serious pinning down of the bunny to get him cleaned up (honestly, how does he grow the giant dreadlocks on his butt?)

And then.... Miss. Jelly.

Finally paid off the vet bills from last month's eyeball injuries....

And now she's pawing away at her face after a full force run into the door frame/wall.

How? She needs momentum to get up the two back steps, so she runs open throttle .. except the eyesight isn't what it used to be... and she misjudged by at least 4 inches tonight. The clanging noise and watching her roll back down the stairs was almost too much for me. Thank goodness the vet gave us double the usual amount of meds after her last injury.

seriously?

::note- yesterday I must have hit "save" instead of publish, the post was still sitting in the drafts folder when I signed in last night.... oops::

me: you want some of this carrot?

dog: food food food food food!

me: you're not going to eat it.

dog: gimme

dog proceeds to spit carrot slice onto the floor and walk away

me: glad I saved the rest for the rabbit

rabbit: grunt, munch, swallow, grunt

dog: I WANT THAT

rabbit: hey! come back here!

seriously? dog is now slobbering all over the stolen carrot while her piece of carrot lays where she spit it out.

Time to wash the floors.

feed the twigs

Do you ever see something so often you forget it's there?

I noticed something kinda odd while sweeping the house today.

Well, for one- I was sweeping. Usually I'm vacuuming, giant beaster bunny is a non-stop shedding machine. I can barely keep up.

(note: those tiles are each 1 foot square or more/ that's a full sized bathroom door)

But that wasn't the odd part.. the odd part was the funny twisted little twigs I kept finding near 'Touf's litter box. I couldn't figure out where they were coming from... I checked my boots to see if there were any stuck to them, I checked the bunny to see if they were stuck to his coat... I checked outside the door to see if they were on the sidewalk... later outside I checked to see if they were from a dried plant in the garden... They were tiny weird little things.

I found one again later... after sweeping.

Picked it up.

Threw it on the ground.

I figured it out.

I went and got the newspaper.
I shredded the newspaper.
I picked thru the rabbit litter box (with a litter sifter.... don't worry)

And then I opened up the three bins sitting beside the back door... and fed the starving compost worms. Compost worms that had been slowly escaping looking for compost...  compost worms that dry out and look like little twigs.

gross.

nyquil

My green bottled best friend at the moment is making me sleep thru fun things...  groggy at best.

I moved the rabbit back upstairs again.. He's been on the main floor for about 6 hours and I've swept 3 times... I can hear him tearing up a newspaper... where did he get a newspaper?

dark

Real spring is back.
Cold and dark.
I've lost all my enthusiasm to get anything done.

How do other people manage to accomplish anything?

I just want to sit around and take pictures of my pets.

paddles and fuzz

I have a serious issue going on at the house.
Yes, she's a cute baby (a loaner).
Yes, he's a large bunny (a beast).
Yes, I should build the shoe rack (those boots).

But let's focus. That thunder bunny with the giant paddle feet? He's still molting. LOOK at that fur!

I've vacuumed every day for the past two weeks. I'm getting annoyed. This isn't something you can sweep up. Dust bunnies. Bigger than normal sized bunnies.

speedy

I'm going to have to build a half door to the back room.
Pontouff Pony moved in a week ago, and while I trust the dog not to eat him... I don't trust her not to eat his food, or whatever might be in the litter box.

"Try a baby gate" you say?

20lbs of bunny can still fling himself over the gate.

last bunny post for a bit... honest.

Monday Bunday

This picture is from last year- 'Touff stealing little Fynn's litter box at the old house. I can't remember where I put my card reader to retrieve my photos from this week. I'll find it.
Also missing is that great pirate shirt. I can't remember if I gave it to someone? I think it might fit Jelly, it was a little too small for 'Touff.

Monday Bunday

Jelly is banished to the far side of the baby gate. A fair trade- usually 'Touff is behind bars...

is it safe?

Once the littlest girly started playing on the floor, we realized she and Pontouff were about the same (body) sized. eek!

perspective

*pay no attention to the pile of empties in the background!! I've been saving them for a bottle drive since July.... If they don't get picked up on this next round, I'm going to have to make the (shameful) trip to the beer store to return all the bottles. Actually... pay no attention to that back room... it's last on the list of repairs in the house- it's the old kitchen- currently the mud room/storage and junk catch-all.

Monday Bunday

Please, step into the time machine with me... we're going to go back to the future and remember when the buns were but tiny sweet faces.... and had never caused a problem ever.

I love these pictures... I wish I'd had the foresight to take a picture of each of them in a similar pose, or with the same objects around them to compare their sizes... Both of them are at 5.5 weeks here... the difference being, Fynn fit in the palm of my hand... and Pontouff was the same length as a full-grown Fynn!

update: Monday Bunday

Hold on to your whiskers, it's been a long time coming.

Bunday Mondays will resume this coming week.

Until then, here's an old photo... (don't worry his nails have been trimmed since then!)

hobbits are suppose to be small

one of the charms of the house was this cat door that led to the pantry... I pictured the Bunnies passing in and out of it, free to roam with a safe retreat....

um.what was I thinking? he's nearly the size of the door!

more fuzz

all but 2 back nails are now trimmed. no casualties.

In other news....
NUke-O had an extra gathering tonight, getting ready for the big "Toques and Ukes" event. (We're in the 'Burg's chirstmas parade!)
A really fun night tonight... I love that some other people have stepped up to lead this... it's such a funny group of people... with more than 50 years between our oldest and youngest members. You never know what direction things are going to go in.

Plans are in the works for "the hobbit house concert series".... first guest to be announced soon!

fuzz butt

it came to a smack-down between myself and Sir Pontouff Pony this evening.
I've come to realize that the poor fuzz pot, as large and disproportionate as he is... has a difficult time getting at his own tail.
so.
tonight, armed with scissors and patience,
I was able to whittle it down to a third of it's size.
a more... natural looking size.

the giant tufts of fur, large matts nearly the size of my fist... reminded me of "the teddy bear" littlebits used to sport on the back of her head. For those of you who weren't around in those years, my little sister had dreadlocks.... with one strangely shaped clump hidden underneath. It had a name.

Naturally, since poor 'Touf was upside down and couldn't do too much about it, I worked my way around to one of his oddly shaped feet. His feet wouldn't be so oddly shaped if he'd bother to groom them too. He seems to like to drag around clumps of fur the size of FynnPants.

Fur Kankles. Fankles?

I managed to clear one leg before the squirming started. Squirming isn't a problem if you're holding a normal rabbit. If you're holding a Flemish Giant, it means the grooming session is nearly over. In the first giant kick, I was pulling on the last of a clump of fur, unfortunately it meant that it tore his skin! A tiny tear, but I imagine it hurt a heck of a lot. Enough that he flipped over unexpectedly... and managed to get a nail stuck in my sweater - one more kick and he tore the nail off.
Poor giant bunny.
Some forced cuddles and a quick check, no dripping blood *phew*, the Kangaroo was back in his mansion drinking water and hopping around.

Other than a few dirty looks (rabbits are disapproving after all) I think all is well.

Tomorrow I'll attack the other foot, and maybe get those nails trimmed!

eeeeeeew. oh

so.
apparently, it's not so pretty trying to burrito wrap an 18lbs bunny in order to trim his toenails.

I don't recommend it.
