roadtrips with Persia

I just spent a lovely day in the city visiting some of the favourites, and catching up with some old friends... it was so good to see those faces.

I feel like each part of the day was it's own day... too many stories jumbling together, starting with Muffins in Farsi and ending with a tiny smiling elf playing the drums beside spinning speakers.
no.
really.

-yogurt and sitars
-roomie visit (how to get lost in the mall)
-catching up
-Roots Music Canada's woodshed
-polka roo debunked
-knitting in the pub with (the) rats
-"I was a smoker dating a smoker" ... "how'd you like to date another smoker?"...."admit it, that was really funny".
-the Nylons (baby, are you busy tonight?)
-dinner and music a la Cleave Anderson and John T. Davis

In celebration...

in celebration of day 3 off of pain killers, I went for a slow... slow slow.. 3 k run.
mmmm, felt good.

and I decided on the track of the month. a little ditty too good not to run to.

especially with that count in. perfect for a bouncy trot by the lake.

(Speaking of the lake... I don't know if it was a crazy air pressure thing or something.. but I could actually see the lights on the other side of the lake tonight. clear across to Rochester. crazy.)

oh, follow up the voices with a dance party to K'naan's : in the beginning, and you've got the makings of a no sleep night.

pretty and smart

A friend shared this with me a few years ago.
then she shared it again.
and I needed it.
and probably you do to.

"Our deepest fear is NOT that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are the child of the creator.
Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are born to make manifest the glory of the creator that is within us.
It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone, and as we let our own light shine, we consciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

flung

It feels like spring.
I know it's just a tease, it's still pre-Marchbreak.. the magical moment in the month that can have you one moment in shorts and swimsuit, catching the first heat- laying out on the back deck, or skipping rope in hand.... and the next shoveling on the hour, trying to keep up with the drifts plotting to hold you captive.

But for today.
I've got the front door, the back door, and all the windows that work... open. wide.

and I'm sitting listening so some of my favourite quiets. after an hour of dancing in the galley. I've justified my facebook time. (again) by leaving the computer on the counter in the galley leading to the kitchen. so I stand. and dance. and type. and when I have voice... sing.

I had to leave the cast party early(ish) (does 6am mean early... or late?) to get some stronger drugs... I've been taking such good care of my throat for the past few days- and after the final show.... I just .... stopped. 5 hours later and I felt like I couldn't even swallow. breathing was becoming a problem. Nothing a few Advil (thanks Grey) some gargling with salt/tylenol, and some cough meds couldn't fix.

Much better now. I sound like a man. But... no pain.

I should be all better by Tuesday.

I have so much to work thru from the play still.. I don't know what I can share yet.

mister tambourine man

ok, so the thing that had the potential of being the most embarrassing element of the play for me (um... aside from that other thing) has been resolved.
And I am SO totally ok with it now.
ok?

In other news... I'm on my way to the royal winter fair tomorrow, and I know you wish you were going.

Night on the Town

I spent the night in the smoke on Sunday.

I love going to the city for these little visits- I love the excitement and newness of it. I love the faces, the smells, the action, the heat, the sounds.. all mixing and thudding together into one big dance... till you find yourself in the middle of the floor, not knowing which way is up or out, and not even caring.

But I also like to come home.
Lazy afternoons at the bean.
Old friends reconnecting over a slow supper.
Picking food from the garden.
Tiny living?
or Tiny Town living?
Can you do both?

Swarmin'

Yuppers, the swarm gathered, we buzzed, we danced, we may have drank (a little mojito or two), and yet again we flew back to the 80's with the McFlies.
Seriously- I can't think of a better way to spend the evening. Met up with some old friends, dragged along some friends from home (reluctant, and positive that it would suck- why don't people trust me?) (oh, right... nights of deception ARE my specialty, BUT- when I like something... it's because it's really good.. so future reference.... trust me!) Anyway, by the end of the night, they'd both gotten up dancing, and one even asked me about a future event that I'm forever blathering on about (whoa... maybe.. he... trusts... me..?)
The setting was great!
I'd never been to Lula Lounge before, though I've heard about a number of venues there. I REALLY liked it. It had a much sexier feel to it than say.. Hugh's room... (I love Hugh's though- it's a great sort of intimate spot... makes you feel like you and the band are hanging out together) More of a dance feel to it... so that was nice, and people DID come to dance!
Plus, I was reading up on it- it offers Salsa lessons, dinner and a show for a really great price twice a week- I think I'll try to get back for that sometime soon.
So while my pocket book is now empty for the month (with my entertainment budget shot in one night) my tummy is happy, my ears are happy, and my friends are happy. All in all, a fantastic night.

wedd'in

Jenny and Bobert are gettin' a hitched this weekend...
things to expect:

Friends
laughter
Music
Tie Die
Food
Karaoke

This will be good.

Also good: I went shopping today. To find a dress.
This wasn't something I was looking forward to... I don't want to spend any more money. I was having a conversation with someone today about weddings... trying to think how much money I'd forked over in the past 10 years for friends wedding stuff... clothing/ bridesmaid dresses, gifts, hotels, showers, drinks-stagettes, traveling...
Anyway, that's not my story.
I went shopping. For a dress, and I found one. It took me forever to decide.. I didn't bother to look at the tags, I knew the store, I knew I didn't want to go into the city... so I just went with it.
When I got to the cash, the lady there smiled, and rang it in... and said the magic words "it's been marked down."
Not only that... it was half off (since I decided to buy a shirt too)....
Grand total?
$14.00

I'm still grinning.

the day after

the gala was lovely... really really lovely.

it was almost like bootcamp for festival season, running around, getting things ready, keeping things moving, so tired you want to cry. But much shorter. Over before it had really started.

It did keep going afterwards, a group headed out to the B&B (more about that place later) for music and song and libation.
I headed to bed.
Knowing that my morning shift was going to be coming all too soon.

I walked thru a snow bank in open toed shoes just to get to my bed faster.... it was that important.

And as I lay snug in my sheets, I wondered "did I lock the door?" as I heard the sound of someone coming into the house.

They wandered around, I heard some thumping in the kitchen....

I rolled over in my bed, pulled the sheets higher, sighed... and thought to myself "well, at least if they kill me I won't have to go to work in the morning." then promptly fell asleep.

Sadly I awoke to my alarm.
It had only been my roommate coming home.
