Last but not least, 25 things part 5

Ha. I actually followed thru on something.

20. I inherited my mom's stinky feet. So gross.

21. I like the way my dog's feet smell....  they're sort of like Fritos.

22. My mom died 9 years ago, I miss her every day.

23. I've started to read James A. Michner's "The Source" 8 times. each time I start it, I get a little further into the book and like it a little more... but I've never finished it. I have this idea in my mind that it's a really long book- but I think it's just the first copy of it I owned was printed in a strange way as to make it seem like the longest book ever. I've read longer books.
23.b. I've started to read "The Lord of the Rings" 4 times and never gotten past chapter 2 of the first book. I think if the characters in the book were each named things like Mike, Ralph, or Fred... I'd be more likely to read it- there are too many names that my brain can't translate into distinguishable characters.

24. I like to grow my food, can and preserve, cook amazing meals.... but I also love processed foods.... so so much.

25. I have a number of friends who are strictly "online" friends- People I've never met in person but whom I've gotten to know over the years thru a variety of forums and blogs. I have a few friends in real life that I've met through the same means... The first "forum" (other than the chat rooms in the 90's.. I never stayed with one of those for long enough) I was a part of was created because of a portly cat named Buddy who liked to monorail pose on the back of a couch. Thank you Cute Overload. Maybe I'll tell the whole story some time. I have a number of crew members from my puzzle pirate days on facebook...

Hopefully I haven't scared off friends by posting these... if you're feeling up to the challenge, please let me know where I can find your list!

Pirates (Always) Pirates

Sometimes, when there's nothing better to do (than clean my house)
I look at old blog posts.

Yesterday felt a little meta when I found one talking about future digital archeologists digging thru the layers of the blogosphere, it linked back to an old post from Will's blog.

(greatest quote ever)
"Note to digital archaeologists of the distant future: Those cats could not actually has cheezburgers"

::side note, I've said it before, if you're not following Will's current project at "A Year Of Billy Joel", you're missing out::

I'm so off topic I've nearly forgotten the point of this post.

While digging thru old posts, I discovered I could look up history based on tags..which is why they're there in the first place.. They just don't make it very convenient. They've even changed the name of tags to "labels".

The number one tag used in this blog? "Monday Bunday" with something like 99 entries.  I've been known to dress up my pets. Next most tagged is "Community"... then not too too far down the line... "Pirates".

Of course Pirates.

All this to say... Today I opened my email to discover  this.. an invitation to audition for the part of a pirate. IN PETER PAN!

It's like my entire being has been waiting for this.

yarrrrr.

hic.up.

Growing up, in high school, I had chronic hicups. Not as bad as my friend Mandamanda, but bad enough that I got kicked out of my afternoon classes on a regular basis.

Years later, thru trial and error and watching my lifestyle, I discovered that it was a stress related thing (mostly). There are a few other triggers that are food related. Carroty things. I remember my mom saying that carrot sticks gave her hicups. Mostly it's carrot muffins or raw carrots for me.

I'm also a serious stereotype.

I just spent a lovely evening at the pub with some friends and I can't stop the hicups.

also- two things. I can't remember the first, but I'm sure it will come to me. Something about sea shanties.

The second- small town syndrome. I don't think I've ever seen our waitress from tonight- but in conversation she said something about knowing that I lived in the apartment over her boss a few years back. (yup, hanging at the crazy lady's pub)

finally, something to look forward to

The hardest part of SVFF passing, (other than it being over) (and other than it being a whole YEAR till the next one) is the lack of something to be excited for in the near future.
It's all about the expectation.
So, I'm here to remind you that it's only 9 more sleeps till "talk like a pirate day".

Yarrr, I be there in spirit already.

999d

I figured out how to install Ypp on the Mac.
I am one happy pirate.

Elbowmarie, Officer - Sage Ocean.

It's been a long time since I could play- the old computer was freezing all the time during battles. It was very sad. Now, the thing is, I love my crew/friends so much, that I hardly ever get around to actually PLAYING. I spend all my time catching up with me hearties.

theft?

I was out walking tonight (still no stranger on the boardwalk...) and noticed something odd.. out of place.
In the front window of the Bargain!Shop (lol, I love that there's an exclamation point in it's name) was a box of children's play swords. Ok, so the swords themselves weren't out of place... it was the box, or rather, what was on the box.
YPP graphics!
In case you've forgotten, I love pirates. Actually, mostly I love PuzzlePirates, and I think they are too cute and all that.... blah blah blah (I won't bore you too much). The back of the box had PuzzlePirate Pirates on it! The graphics were a really poor quality (which is what you get when you steal an image... ) but I had to stop and stare and stare at it... not really getting it at first...

Anyway, that leads me to what I wanted to post today... a little something stolen from someone else's site.

Some of you have heard me talk a little bit about GTI... but I don't think I've written much about it. Ruth wrote something after last week that made me cry... I love GTI.
based on a real life event...
(ok, now I feel like I'm part of a hallmark movie)

(This is a real prayer request, written up by Ruth.)
My name is Lovey. I'm 29 years old, but I'm more like a 10 year old. I live in a motel.
I'm going to school to learn to read and it's a lot of fun. I'm doing really good. I have a friend who drives me to school and home again. She takes me grocery shopping and helps me read the signs and the fliers. I can afford a lot more groceries when she comes with me than when I do it alone.
My boyfriend works at a gas station and doing odd jobs. I walk dogs to help. I like to bake cookies, especially peanut butter.
Living in a motel means that my kids can't live with me. I have 3 kids. They live 2 hours away with people in my family.
I'm trying to get an apartment. It's really nice. It has 2 bedrooms and a balcony and a real kitchen, not just a hot plate and a microwave. I can afford it and the people who run the building are really nice. I filled in the application.
Please do a prayer for me that I'll get the apartment and maybe my kids can come visit me there.

**editor's note:: ok ok, thank you for the spelling check NI.

to answer a question

Manda asked :: "did you win the SF?"

yes, in fact I DID win the SF.

though, I wonder if you get to call it sword fight if you're using a stick?

Tonight I was climbing into bed and remembered my laundry was still downstairs. (obviously I'm not in my bed now if I'm writing) I'm down to one pair of unholey jeans that are comfortable (I'm going to be doing a lot of crouching tomorrow), so I sent a txt message downstairs to roomie. See, I figure a txt message is a little less intrusive then me hollering down the stairs at her... and since I have to walk thru her room to get to the laundry... I figured I'd better see if she was still awake.

She txted back "no prob" and I wandered (in the dark) thru the living room, into the kitchen and headed down the stairs.

Once in the laundry room though... I couldn't find my clothes.

I stood in the middle of the room looking around, then walked out, confused look on my face.

"Your laundry is already upstairs" Roomie said.
Blank look.
"I didn't think I'd brought it up yet" (absolute terror setting in at this point... I'm losing my mind!)
"I brought it up for you, it's beside your bedroom door, I just figured you meant your jeans were somewhere else."

sure enough, when I went upstairs, I nearly tripped on the basket... don't know how I missed it before.

1) I have a thoughtful roommate
2) we should get an intercom
3) I need infrared glasses

spring ahead

for those of you living "this side" (errrrr, well... except those of you in SK who refuse to join in the game)

Don't forget to change your clock before you go to bed.
also
I was told tomorrow (or tonight, depending on when you change your clock) is a great time to change your smoke detector battery.

Last night I decided to pirate... it's been awhile, and I'd been missing my crew. The smoke detector started to go off... I didn't even bother to look up.... I finished my sword fight, THEN checked to see if the house was burning down.

Monday Bunday

I was getting ready to post for today, and was flipping thru some pictures, trying to decide which shot to use... when I opened this one I got excited....

I've been looking for that stupid tie-dyed sock for a week.... look careful, somewhere near a pirate's mouth.

(pirate slipper that is).

....

That last post wasn't intended to sound nearly as synical as it ended up being.

and my computer is acting up.... spell check isn't working, msn is cutting in and out, and I can't pirate due to "crazy lag" (I CAN sword fight though... watch out).

harumph.

I did spend the morning at the bean... and partook (like partake, but past tense) of their new and splendid brunch.
I reccomend it.
And if you'd tell them that I reccomended it, I'd apreciate it. Thanks.

Happy New Year's Eve

It's come, yet again, to my attention that I need to win the Lottery.
And when I do...
le sigh.....

all in a day

it's been yet another busy week... but I think that's it now... really... um... honestly?
I hope.

This week the Sheffs moved into town, it was a huge job, BUT it was cool to see just how many people were willing to help out! By the time I got there after work on Friday most of the work was done, so I just joined Maria and we played house set-up. I love putting things into their new spots in a new house... now if only I could capture that enthusiasm and use it to put away my own crap.

This pic is from one of my new favourite blogs, if you get a chance to check it out I def recommend it... www.bentobjects.blogspot.com

Too long.
I have no POE.
And I have no idea what's going on.

pirates

and me.
sigh.

best conversation ever (in the style of gilmore girls) ::

me:: "hey, want to finish my sandwich?"
pirate:: "do I?" (hands grab sandwich off the plate before I've even asked)
me:: "chuckle"
pirate:: "this is chicken"
me:: "mmm, only the best"
pirate:: "I'm a vegetarian"
me:: "oh.... I'm sorry"
pirate:: "meh...." (eats the sandwich)

oh those commercials... snort!

Ok, I love a good commercial. No, really, I LOVE a good commercial.
Catchy jingle? Witty hook line? Fantastic series?
I'm yours.
I lived for the new Brick commercials in the mid nineties.... I craved the Snapple Lady, I still rap out the 80's McDonald's ditty... (side note:: it was a compitition down in the states, they just gave us the song up here, also, I can't find any snapple lady commercials)

And now? I'm in love with the Mac guy (don't worry Dolly, you're safe).

But I realized I've got a bit of a problem.
Rather, I just realized - as I was talking with the Roomie about the way the MacBook prices have been coming down, that I have a big problem.

When I said;

I've been thinking about the MacBook for awhile now, but I'm afraid to get it because I'll have to relearn all the keys for Puzzle Pirates.

ElbowMarie:: The pirate

Warning:: This is Piratey stuff, if you're sick of pirates, don't read this. If you're not, and it doesn't make sense to you... just go try the game...

Disclaimer:: I will not be held responsible for your addiction, nor for the loss of computer sharing in a family (sorry PaSheff)

Not too long ago, I received what I'd been waiting for...
you see, hard work and perseverance paid off.
I am a self-proclaimed puzzlepiarates addict (a piratetart?), and for months now I've been trying to reach the status of full-fledged pirate. When you join a crew, each has different requirements for this status to come about. You start out as a cabin person, then pirate, then officer, then.... there are others, ... maybe someday an officer, but for now... pirate.
Now, the crew I'm a part of (Fiddlers Green) is great, I love the crew.. I know, it's a game, but you get to know the people you're playing with, and this is a particularly chatty crew... anyway, this crew has some fairly high standards in order to become a pirate .... ok ok, really it's just that you need to have a ranking of Master or higher in Gunning and one other game.... here lay my problem.
I am a terrible gunner. I am afraid of the guns, I am given a heart attack trying to keep up with the game....
But, after many hours of practice, I got up to Master.
Unfortunately, I'm not consistent, I go back and forth between "respected" and "master" with each board I play. And the last time I played (with a total of 24 boards) I switched 18 times.
But... it does not matter, I've been promoted to pirate... I am content. I danced... I sang, I handed out imaginary cookies....

Now if only I could find some more piratey time to play....

one week

just one week till bunny pick up.

any ideas on names? NO.. it will not be named after a computer anti-virus.

I'm leaning towards a piratey theme.... but those names are harder to come up with. As I'm unsure as to if I'm getting a male or a female, your ideas for either gender would be appreciated.

The other day I promised little buddy I wouldn't talk about pirates around him anymore... So, I don't bring up the subject. A short time later we (as a group) went out, I happened to be wearing a pirately-theme'd tee-shirt, so of course the topic turned to pirates (and ninjas). But, I must point out... it wasn't me who started the conversation.

deja vu

This morning was a rough morning... not that there's anything horrible happening in life...
I just had to wake up in time for work.

I rubbed my eyes, tried to tame my hair, then stretched my atrophying muscles and headed to the door.

I promise to find something other than puzzle pirates to talk about. Honest.
yesterday someone told me I had nice elbows.... on puzzle pirates.
