Dress

We've been running full dress all week for the opening of "Christmas at the Park Theatre". It's our version of the radio city Chirstmas special... with the previously mentioned "Parkettes" instead of the "Rockettes".

Um... I've been calling them the "Perkettes" (read the post from two days ago)

Last night we even had Santa (aka The Town Crier, aka Tom) in costume... he's just been lumbering out from the audience in past rehearsals in jeans and a sweatshirt.

I'd invited the individuals (and accompanying staff) from where I work to come and watch the dress (rehearsal) last night. They gave us some really great energy while we were up there- singing loudly and clapping with excitement. I think there was some confusion when we started singing happy birthday to Santa (it was Tom's birthday), but they took it all in stride. I loved that every time I looked back to where they were sitting someone would start waving frantically at me.

Bitter sweet. This will have to be my last show due to the changes with work. I won't be able to attend any rehearsals with the new schedule. Unless I  find a director who's really lenient and allows me to show up an hour late every evening.

A shot from this week... I'm behind one of the pineappley things- (AMAZING headdresses by Lisa... based on one of the 12 days of Christmas! The girls have to walk sideways to fit thru the door!)

stumbling

Inspired by my friend BethSheff, I'm taking on the basement... I went down there this morning armed with a recycling bag, a box for garbage and a few boxes for the local second hand store.

I didn't come back up for hours.

And when I did... things were worse than when I started.
The house is... um.... *sigh*

Let's just say that if my mother wasn't already dead, she'd have had a heart attack and died from the piles of random things. I've mentioned before how I'm an "Outie" organizer raised by "Innie" parents, right?  Their version of storage was "everything has a place, and everything in it's place".... my version is "I know which pile it's in".

I'm slowly learning that neither method is right... it's ok to be either way... there are good sides to each of the systems... it's the Catholic guilt that I deal with for having things in sight that really does me in....

Anyway... I've emptied more than half the boxes (those which were never unpacked after the move) into garbage/recycle/reuse piles... the things I've found!!! Seriously. AMAZING.

I've found a smoke detector... the one that started beeping 4 months ago.
My Social Security card... I didn't know it was missing!
Countless bottles of shampoo... all half used... weird.
So MANY binders.
(one of them was even my music binder from 1997) (hello "Lifeline" music team!)

Some of the things I've been bringing up and leaving where I'll see them- so I'll deal with them right away... um. except that the dog keeps tripping on them.

I'm not kidding... she fell into a mixing bowl tonight. It comes up to her knees... it's not small. It's in the middle of the floor... um. beside the spinning wheel. um... beside the autoharp.

On monday she ran into a wall. She didn't cut her eye this time... but she did bruise it... I think she's lost most of her vision now in the left eye.

Hence falling INTO the mixing bowl.

I borrowed these snazzy Doggles to help protect her eyes... except her head is too big for them... Bubble wrap is the next option.

almonds - clowns

person 1 enters the room. On the floor, a table on it's side Two shoes are hanging from it by their heels. Nearby, there is a single glove, three clothes pegs and a container of almonds laying in a row on the floor. Ideas of entertainment float into focus.

Person 1 is encouraged instead to be in the space. Not to judge the items before they've been encountered. P1 is annoyed, the idea of turned up noses to old shoes is funny! A script is being formed- but P1 allows the idea to be discarded and walks to the objects to investigate.

It's painful for a few seconds. Just viewing the items. trying not to formulate. Touching them, but not trying to force an idea on the way things "should" unfold. Finally... long moments later... the glove is picked up, and pinned to the wall. P1 stares at it, shrugs, and starts to eat out of the container of almonds. P1 pauses and throws an almond at the glove, it hits the glove and falls to the floor. P1 allows a small smile to escape, and placing the container of almonds on the floor, begins to play a basketball-like game with the almonds and the glove. Each shot is missed.

P2 enters the room, and watches. Slowly P2 approaches the game. P1 has missed every shot, but doesn't seem frustrated. P2 asks what P1 is playing, and if they can play too.

P1: CATCH! throws the almond
P2: I'll try! catches easily and tosses it back to P1

the almond is thrown back and forth, till P1 takes the almond and pretends to slam dunk it into the glove... P1 goes for the dunk, and with the other hand, opens the glove up wide and places the almond inside.

P1: TOUCHDOWNS!

P2: again!

P1: tosses the almond, catches, and pumps her fists in the air... we're really good. Champions!

We could win a trophy!

p2: how would you look if you won a trophy?

P1: places hands on hips and sticks out their chest, head held high.

How would you look?

P2: strikes a pose. Here, let me try! Pass it to me!

the almond is tossed back and forth, P2 goes for the shot... and misses. The almond falls, P2 falls, and the almond breaks.

P2: I didn't do it. It broke. I never win ANYTHING!

P1: This is really sad. We're not going to get the trophy. I've never really won anything before. I wanted a trophy..... Have.. you ever won anything?

P2: gets up off the floor I don't remember it, but I was told I won "cutest baby"

P1: cutest baby doesn't count.

P2: crestfallen. I don't think I've won anything then.

P1: That's ok. moments pass What if we pretended we won? and it was like the Olympics? and we got up at the podium, and they all clapped for us? It would be like winning? Here, we can step up on to the podium and pretend.. we can sing the national anthem!

P1 steps onto an imaginary podium and begins to bow.

P2: I don't think I can do it....

P1: yes you can, here, I'll hold your hand!

P1 drags P2 onto the podium. P2 has P1 in a death grip.

P2: hisses quietly ... I'm scared!

P1: It's ok, you don't have to be scared. I'm holding your hand.

P2: I don't think I can do it.

P1: want to know something that works for me? Just look out at the people and pretend they're all naked.

P2: looking straight at P1 Ok....

P1 and P2 slowly look away from eachother, look out at the audience, their eyes growing wide.. and start laughing....(after a beat the audience realizes that the laughter really is directed at them.... ) they begin to walk off the stage, P1 offers more advice for bravery as they walk....

**post script**
unfortunately, the txt here will never ever capture the moment.
the pauses, the gestures, the fear and joy on the faces of the clowns... the painful moments of discomfort waiting for things to be reviled. .. honestly discovered on the fly.

after the "cutest baby doesn't count" line, and up till the "pretend they're naked" line, things are a little guesstimated... there was a little too much laughing to keep it all straight.

One of my proudest moments was when the next group and the instructor made a comment about how difficult it would be to follow us. It felt so good after a frustrating morning of trying hard not to allow myself to "script" what I thought would be funny.

red noseing it.

Sometimes, it's good to figure out who you are inside.
And sometimes to do that, you have to turn the insides outside....

So, tomorrow I'm going to a clowning course.

That seems like a really good idea.

**and if anyone has $400 they'd like to give me, there's a week long course coming up that I'd love to attend.

Perfect Fit

I have a dog on Saturdays.

Every other Saturday, when I finish work, I got to the Bean. I go there more often than that, but it's a special day every other Saturday... that's the day that I steal Lovely Lee's dog. Lovely Lee works the long shift on Saturday at the Bean... so his poor lovely puppy is at home...

enter the awesome.

I borrow his dog for the afternoon.
Now, it's only happened twice.. but I plan on making this a regular activity.
Blurry pictures from a hyper little dog....

** We played dressup with Norton's old clothing pile... None of Norty's stuff really fit little Fiona... but it was fun anyway... especially since I can't even get any of the clothes on 'Touff... his head doesn't even fit thru the openings....

Swarmin'

Yuppers, the swarm gathered, we buzzed, we danced, we may have drank (a little mojito or two), and yet again we flew back to the 80's with the McFlies.
Seriously- I can't think of a better way to spend the evening. Met up with some old friends, dragged along some friends from home (reluctant, and positive that it would suck- why don't people trust me?) (oh, right... nights of deception ARE my specialty, BUT- when I like something... it's because it's really good.. so future reference.... trust me!) Anyway, by the end of the night, they'd both gotten up dancing, and one even asked me about a future event that I'm forever blathering on about (whoa... maybe.. he... trusts... me..?)
The setting was great!
I'd never been to Lula Lounge before, though I've heard about a number of venues there. I REALLY liked it. It had a much sexier feel to it than say.. Hugh's room... (I love Hugh's though- it's a great sort of intimate spot... makes you feel like you and the band are hanging out together) More of a dance feel to it... so that was nice, and people DID come to dance!
Plus, I was reading up on it- it offers Salsa lessons, dinner and a show for a really great price twice a week- I think I'll try to get back for that sometime soon.
So while my pocket book is now empty for the month (with my entertainment budget shot in one night) my tummy is happy, my ears are happy, and my friends are happy. All in all, a fantastic night.

wedd'in

Jenny and Bobert are gettin' a hitched this weekend...
things to expect:

Friends
laughter
Music
Tie Die
Food
Karaoke

This will be good.

Also good: I went shopping today. To find a dress.
This wasn't something I was looking forward to... I don't want to spend any more money. I was having a conversation with someone today about weddings... trying to think how much money I'd forked over in the past 10 years for friends wedding stuff... clothing/ bridesmaid dresses, gifts, hotels, showers, drinks-stagettes, traveling...
Anyway, that's not my story.
I went shopping. For a dress, and I found one. It took me forever to decide.. I didn't bother to look at the tags, I knew the store, I knew I didn't want to go into the city... so I just went with it.
When I got to the cash, the lady there smiled, and rang it in... and said the magic words "it's been marked down."
Not only that... it was half off (since I decided to buy a shirt too)....
Grand total?
$14.00

I'm still grinning.

rain rain come again

I left my plants outside again last night... but they are still happy.
Almost as happy as me!
Why am I happy?
Because it RAINED!

Why does the rain make me happy?
Because I get to wear THESE!

This week at work we've been taking some of the guys from the vocational skills program out to rake leaves (and make a little money for them)....
I may or may not have stopped to have a photo session with my boots.

Because really... a bright spring morning, fresh from the rain, and a wheelbarrow CRY for a photo sesh!

I've been looking for that stupid tie-dyed sock for a week.... look careful, somewhere near a pirate's mouth.

(pirate slipper that is).

1 800 (or) now I use fewer towels

welcome to post 800!
odd. Didn't think I'd last this long.

Last night I made some rather unfavourable comments about the quality of writing in the 'burg's paper... however, having read my own post from the same evening, I retract. I have no right to make a comment.

well, last night I finally did it. But I do have to admit it wasn't the look of horror I was given the other night, it was the time factor involved, AND, now I don't take so long to dry off.

I shaved my left leg.
finally.
See, the problem was (and still is) I get bored shaving my legs. And, I'm a creature of habit.... so, I always shave my right leg first, then my left... it's just lately, well, I haven't had the patience to finish the job... so, while my right leg has been presentable.... my left hadn't seen the blade since August.
So, last night I fought the urge to follow my right-left habit, and did the switcher-roo to left-right...
I got bored.
I'll get to the right leg tomorrow.

SVFF

friends... I love you ...
I realize that at this time of year, I have a tendency to disappear.. to ignore you... to ahhemmm.. maybe even snub you.
But there's a darn good reason.
IT'S FESTIVAL SEASON!!!

however... please, if you see me, and I've been wearing my pants backwards all day, even if I have been ignoring you, tell me.
please?

dreaming

I like it when I get enough sleep... I remember my dreams, and while they still aren't as vivid as the "f.p.b." dream after Togo.... well... they are entertaining.

Last night I was in a hotel room with a group of my friends... and there were four distinct piles of clothing from the previous day's wear. These piles were huge. I'm talking more than 8 articles of clothes per day. Who does that???? And the piles had started to run into each other as I'd been flinging them around looking for two missing pieces of clothes... Two VERY important pieces of clothes.. they were needed IMMEDIATELY, I had someplace to be! One small black shirt and a ... black mask???

Did I mention I was Batman?

The rest of the dream had me sitting out front of my Grandmother's house, opening walnuts and letting out the 6 miniature bugs. Did you know that if you open the walnut they grow? But if you leave them inside to get out on their own they stay small?

Ah... dreams.. :)

got it all wrong...

So last week in a desperate attempt to bring on spring... I wore my flip flops... and it snowed.
This morning when I woke up the sun was shining, but having learned my lesson, I layered up and found the socks.

Should have worn my flip flops...
SPRING IS HERE!

one week

just one week till bunny pick up.

any ideas on names? NO.. it will not be named after a computer anti-virus.

I'm leaning towards a piratey theme.... but those names are harder to come up with. As I'm unsure as to if I'm getting a male or a female, your ideas for either gender would be appreciated.

The other day I promised little buddy I wouldn't talk about pirates around him anymore... So, I don't bring up the subject. A short time later we (as a group) went out, I happened to be wearing a pirately-theme'd tee-shirt, so of course the topic turned to pirates (and ninjas). But, I must point out... it wasn't me who started the conversation.
