Some friends of mine have been encouraging me to try out a few dating websites. These are my "happily married" friends, or those who have found themselves in relationships that they are still trying to justify.... I've taken to copying some of the gems that contact me to a friend, just so I can share a few tears, be they laughter induced tears.. or sheer terror and sadness tears.

I know some people have found lovely partners using this media.

Having worked for a company in the past that ran a bunch of dating sites, I can honestly say they're mostly nonsense. And don't EVER pay for a dating site- it's like signing up for a gym membership.
That said, Okcupid and Plentyoffish aren't bad (and are free), but mostly I think it's a pretty terrible way to meet people.

You and I should chat some day about our experiences on dating web sites. I tried it a few years back and all it really elicited was a weekly e-mail to a select group of friends that I used to title MOTW. That meant Man of the Week/Monster of the Week. Oh, and the mantra by which I live to this day: No grammar, no love. One day I really will make t-shirts with that phrase on it.
Depressing as all hell, eh?
I could never get over how generic and boring and unadventurous most men's profiles were. Poorly written, very little effort put into them. Not that there weren't exceptions, but in general... depressing.
